About
Join Doctoral students and master's students with our campus organization the Association of Curriculum and Pedagogy Students (ACAPS) for a teach-in on Anti-Racism and education on Saturday October 10th from 4:00-6:00pm
We'll begin the event with a virtual theater performance by High School students in NYC of the play "Default" https://www.epictheatreensemble.org/on-tour/ and follow with a question and answer session with the students about the role that systemic racism plays in schools. You can learn more about Epic cast members and systemic racism here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8-uRbSUWrk&feature=youtu.be
We feel strongly as educators that we need make space this fall to critically examine the systems and practices that contribute to the spaces that students and teachers find themselves in and how we can do more than say those systems are wrong and instead confront and dismantle them.
Immediately following the theater we'll move into our panel and discussion with Dr. Maranda Ward (GWSMHS), Dr. Dwayne Wright (GSEHD) and Dr. Elizabeth Rule (GWCPS).

Questions we'll use to frame the evening are:
1. What role do we play as educators and graduate students in maintaining systems of white supremacy?
2. What steps can we take to go beyond harm mitigation in our teaching and research and instead move us towards dismantling those systems and committing to the self work that anti-racist pedagogy requires?
