    GW Math Matters

Our session went pretty well on Wednesday. We successfully made the connection between direction on the number lines and general "rules" we can apply. We finished the number systems packet and are moving on to coordinate planes.

I noticed that my students had significant difficulty dividing on the worksheet. I'm going to need to go over this in a future session.

Definitely harder than last week--but still good. The students were TIRED, and I was tired enough that I couldn't muster the energy to counter that low energy the whole 1.5-hour session. We continued working on the number systems packet and completed another one and a half pages. I feel like they are understanding the concepts pretty well now, despite not being able to do it at the beginning. I don't know which I should value more: continuing to move forward or complete understanding.

This first tutoring session went really well. Each of my students was in a different place in their confidence/comfort levels with math, but I think they all improved a little by the end of our session. We only got through 1.5 pages of the packet--I think the rest will go a bit faster now that they understand the concept.
