We wrote holiday cards with notes of encouragement for UT students and packaged cookies to hand out to students. We did this to try and boost morale around campus as it is evident students are starting to stress out over midterms and finals. It was a great experience and I would happily host this event again!

Saturday morning September 17th, I volunteered at the Austin Animal Center. The AAC has a wonderful program where you are able to walk adoptable dogs and give them human interaction for as long as you like and at any time that is convenient for you. I went late Saturday morning to walk and play with some dogs. I had a lot of fun interacting with the dogs with green stickers and I even had some time to play with some of the cats at the center as well. It was humbling to see how trusting a lot of these animals were despite some of their stories. I love animals and so this volunteering opportunity was perfect for me. I would love to do this again and I felt as though my time was very well spent.

On March 30th, I volunteered at the ULN internship fair. I was assigned the job of a floater, but mostly I stood by the ULN table and interviewed students who were interested in the ULN mentor position as well as answered any questions they might have had about the process of applying and what to expect as a mentor. I met many great candidates and I really enjoyed talking to people. I also got to talk to other mentors, lead mentors, and also members of staff, which was very fun. I really enjoyed this volunteering experience and would love to help out in the future if possible.

On the 13th of February, I volunteered at the Austin Animal Center. I helped the center walk and interact with their adoptable dogs. I first went into the 100s kennel and found that Aurora had not been walked so I put her on a leash and walked and interacted with her for about 45 minutes. After I put her back into her kennel, I went to the 300s kennel and took Craig out for a 45 minute walk. After I put Craig back into his kennel, I went to interact with the cats in the shelter and finally I left. I loved volunteering here and will definitely be going back soon!

On Friday February 12th, I volunteered with the school of Nursing at UT Austin. Patty reached out to nursing students to find volunteers for the school or nursing career fair. I thought this could be a great opportunity to help out and learn more about agencies and hospitals that I may be interested in working for in the future. My role was a greeter and I was also a part of the take down crew. As a greeter, I helped students sign in and helped direct them to the Lone Star room in the Frank Erwin Center. When the fair was over, I helped agencies take down their displays, helped them pack their things and also helped a few agencies load their belongings into their cars. During this process, I was able to learn more about these agencies and their roles in the medical field. I also met several nurses who gave me very good advice. I really enjoyed this volunteering opportunity and I would happily volunteer again.

On Friday the 15th of January, I was an International Baccalaureate (IB) Alumni speaker at James Bowie High school. I had to present on how IB has helped me in college and if I had any tips for juniors and seniors currently in IB and sophomores who were interested in IB. This is my second time being an IB Alumni speaker at James Bowie High school. I really enjoyed answering the student's questions and giving them tips on how to get through IB and how that can help in the transition to college. I would like to volunteer here again in the future.

ULN End of the Year Community Service Holiday Event

I volunteered as a mentor. I was a "Table Floater" and I really enjoyed my job. My role was to go around to different tables and answer any questions and make sure that students were putting the right things into their bags. I also helped set up and clean up. I had a lot of fun helping students create care packages for the homeless population in Austin and it was so nice seeing some of my mentees coming to the event!

I volunteered at the School of Nursing on the 17th of November 2015. I signed up to volunteer as a pretend family member or friend of a patient and J1 student nurses had to interact with me and their patient without any knowledge of who I was. I played 3 different roles. My first role was the neighbor of a man who had just been in a car accident. My second role was the wife of a man who had just had a stroke and my third role was the husband of a woman who had just had a hysterectomy. I really enjoyed volunteering for this event, because as a nursing major, I got to see what I had to look forward to next year.

    Longhorn Lights Out

I have volunteered for this organization before and loved it! I decided to do it again and this time, I got to meet new people and have fun whilst helping conserve energy at UT. We turned off lights and any electronics such as projectors that were left on even though no one was there in the room or hallway. I thought this was a great way to help conserve energy here at UT.

Love Your Leftovers: Friday Shifts Signup

I think what the program is trying to do is great! I waited by the trash cans and educated people on what items go into the landfill, recycle, and compost trash can and for the most part people were very cooperative and nice! I myself am a very big advocate for sustainability and finding ways to help make the earth a cleaner and more efficient place so I definitely loved volunteering here.
