I helped to open and organize trays of green beans, chop butternut squash, and make scrambled eggs.
Sorted, packaged, labeled, and tagged grapes, watermelon, and strawberries to be distributed at corner stores through DCCK's "Healthy Corners" program.
I helped mix and package pumpkin filling, hamburger buns, and turkey links.
Cut cabbage and bell peppers.
I helped to bread a white, flaky fish. I enjoyed this activity and the groups that were at DCCK today, and the kitchen staff were extremely helpful in teaching me how to bread frozen fish, which I've never done before! I'm happy someone will get to eat the fish we made.
I helped food prep for DCCK's dinner by peeling potatoes for the full time. I really enjoyed myself, as all of the Kitchen Coordinators and chefs were fun, nice, and made the experience engaging, and all my fellow volunteers were kind and ready to help. I enjoyed learning about where DCCK gets their produce, and all the food they make for those in need in DC. I am excited to go again in a few weeks!
