Today I was able to brainstorm with the other volunteer, who is part of the Sustainable Living and Learning Community. We tried to think of what was stopping people from participating we could get them to start.
This time working with FRESHFARM was even more exiting because it was the last market of the year at this location. I became a little more familiar with the organization, and I think they are providing something very valuable to the community.
Today another volunteer worked the station for the last 30 minutes, allowing me to put up posters around campus and spread some awareness.
Working with FRESHFARM was an awesome experience. It was interesting to talk about their food drive, which utilizes a very unique process, and get to know the needs of the community.
During this collection, I was able to implement some of the activities which I had previously discussed with MVC community members. This included putting up posters to increase awareness of the collection program and attempt to recruit volunteer help.
This time during the collection, I was able to interact with the residents more. I was able to brainstorm with a member of the Sustainable Living and Learning Community and again, pass those recommendations on to the Office of Sustainability.
This was my first time running the MVC collection, so participation is limited so far. However, I was able to brainstorm many ideas to increase awareness of our program amongst Mount Vernon residents. I relayed these recommendations to the Office of Sustainability.
Today I got to see the Mt. Vernon set up and become familiar with it. I am veery excited to start growing the program and getting people involved with composting on the Vern. This is especially important this year, as the Sustainable Living and Learning Community is located there.
This time I was able to help with the taking down process, where I was happy to see some of the finer details of the compost collection. I was very excited to get more familiar with the Office of Sustainability and appreciate the work that goes into the process.
