For my service I was aiding my brother in making sandwiches for kids whose schools closed due to COVID-19. I did my service at my brothers store, Tortorice's, an Italian sandwich shop. I was there multiple days a week for around 2-4 hours a day. 20 hours is an estimate as I was not counting the hours until I learned they would count towards the service component for class. I continue to help him with take out orders.
For my service activity I was staffing a swap in South Hall Community Room. I was tracking garments and helping shoppers. I was with other members of my group during these hours.
I personally loved serving at Martha's Table and plan on volunteering again. Today, I traveled to 2 spots in the DC area, set up tables outside, and served food to those who were in need. I initially was located at their Columbia Heights kitchen but then travelled to two different spots in the city. While completing my hours I was with 3 other people volunteering with the program (no other GW students).
I was promoting the event around the school by reaching out to student organizations and hanging flyers in resident halls. I was able to do this at various points on campus by myself.
My service was tracking the specific garments we attained in our pop up run. I gathered data on each individual piece of clothing, like is it GOTs certified or if it is organically made. I was able to do this on campus by myself.
My service was staffing a test run pop up on campus. I accepted clothing and promoted Swap Co. with my group members.
For service I was researching beneficial things to know about textiles when collecting them and created a form to use at all Swap Co. events. I was able to do this on campus with my group during a session.
