    GW Community Response to COVID-19

Today I continued my project making masks for elders around the Cambridge community. I made eight masks in total, accounting for two hours of community service.

For my at home service I sewed 12 masks to be donated to elderly folks around my community. According to professors Scully's guidelines, for each four masks I sewed I received one hour of community service. As such, I have accounted for the 12 masks I sewed with three hours of service.

    Oatmeal Quick Bread

This recipe was one I discovered when searching for an easy, no-knead bread to make at home. It's quite simple to make, delicious, and a fun activity to do with family.

Ingredients: 1 Cup Rolled Oats, 1.5 Cups Whole Wheat Flour, 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder, .5 Teaspoon Salt, 1.5 Tablespoons Honey, 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil, 1 Cup Milk

Directions: Begin by preheating the oven to 450 Degrees. Grind oatmeal in a food processor. In a large bowl, combine oatmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, dissolve honey in oil, then stir in the milk. Combine both mixtures and stir until a soft dough is formed. Form the dough into a ball, using a bit of flour to prevent sticking, and place on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Bake in preheated over for about 20 minutes.

As an art history major, I am fascinated with the architecture of the built environment in Boston. For part of my daily exercise routine I have taken to looking through various published walking tours of the city and following them to gain a new understanding of the city and get outside. It has been very rewarding and sometimes I bring my dog, Dora, along. Attached are two photos, one of a Calder sculpture and one of an Eero Saarinen building on the campus of MIT I saw out on my walk.

For my service on March 24th, I spent two hours picking up trash from Magazine Beach alongside the Charles River. This is a highly trafficked area in my neighborhood, and as such, often collects litter. Normally, there are organized cleanups of the beach, but this was an independent cleanup.
