    GW Community Response to COVID-19

There is an older couple down the road from where I live. Mr. and Mrs. Strickland. They are in their mid to late seventies. Ever since I was little, they have allowed me to come over to their farm, where they have chickens, horses, and a huge pond. They have always granted me permission to come and go fishing. Which is one of my favorite activities. So, I went down to their house to see if they needed any help, or if they may need me to pick them anything up. They said they don't need any help, but I encouraged them to let me help them out. Matter of fact, they needed some medication for one of their horses. So I drove down to the feed store, one that Ms. Strickland typically goes to, and picked these items up for her.

I educated my neighborhood on a species I did not know was endangered to my area. This is the Etowah Crayfish. A species that lives in the ponds, rivers, and creeks behind the houses in my area.

Today, I constructed face masks that are to be worn to help prevent Covid-19. I used normal bandannas but filled the insides with coffee filters. I found out how to make these bandannas by watching a youtube video online. They are not for my personal use, as I have donated them.

My mom is staying on the safe side until everything clears up. As we live in Georgia, is has recently reopened back up with restaurants, gyms, etc. But my family is still in a worrisome state, as we believe this reopening may come too early and will cause the virus to spread more rapidly as we get over the hump. So to help combat, we try to go to the grocery store every 2-3 weeks, as this is the busiest place around. So before everything reopens and get back into normal hours, I went to the store this morning and loaded up on all essential supplies, food, water, and everything else we may need, in case we see a spike in the spread of the virus as Georgia begin to reopen.

I made an infographic on the Boll Weevil. An invasive species native to central Mexico, and made its way to the southern United States, devastating cotton production.

My household was running low on necessary items such as toilet paper and paper towels. So it was my job to go out and find these items. I searched two Kroger's and one Publix, with no luck as they were all out of stock. I had to drive another thirty minutes to find a Costco, where they had just got a large shipment of toilet paper rolls in stock. They limited me to one item, which contained 30 rolls of toilet paper! While I was there, I also picked up some meats, rice, and pasta in bulk to we wouldn't run out. But there we no paper towels. My final stop on my way back home was CVS. I actually stopped here to pick up my parents a card for their 24th anniversary, and matter of fact, CVS had a supply on paper towels, but I was limited to 8 rolls per person (One Package). Since thirty rolls of toilet paper is a little much for my household, considering we still have a supply available, I went around to a couple neighbors and informed them they I have received an excessive amount of toilet paper, an amount that is not needed for my household alone. So, to assure that our neighbors were comforted, as I was unaware, which neighbors could go out, and which had to stay in due to age or an underlying disease, I decided to donate four rolls to four of our closest neighbors. Many of our neighbors have a small family, so this is a viable amount to have for the coming day or weeks.
