This was a meaningful service experience as we learned how to advocate for Planned Parenthood's mission in a different lense and got to use framework we learned in class!
It has been quite the year with my pairing because I have learned a lot about the community he is apart of and feel like I can more understand disparities and issues that they experience because I have his perspective and proximate relationally from August-April.
I am continuing to have a fulfilling experience with this organization and my pairing.
I am sad to be coming to the end of this semester because it means the end of my work with Markell. He has come to see me as a resource to help him navigate this time in his life where he is figuring out what are the best paths to take and I feel like I have been helpful and also formed the space of non judgment that I intended.
I enjoyed working with Markell this semester and being apart of the work In the Streets does as a whole. It was great to learn about how to better be apart of change in terms of mental health and opportunities for individuals in DC as well as get to know all of the other pairings better. I learned most in this class through this service learning opportunity.
