This was my last time volunteering at Kids Club for the semester! There was a birthday celebration, and we decorated Christmas cookies and colored cards to send to nursing homes. I am excited to continue with it next semester!
That was my last time at the Triumph and it was a lot of fun! I brought some cookies to celebrate and I got to see a lot of the kids for the last time. It was sweet and I'm glad I got to meet them all.
Today was a slower day because it was the beginning of the month, but it was still good to see the kids. I had a lot of fun, and am sad that next week will be my last week at the Triumph.
This week was a bit different because some of the kids had brought in homework, which I've never noticed before. They asked me for help with the math and reading assignments, and after they got to a certain point in their work they ate dinner and then choose some games to play. A favorite of the kids is a memory game, where you have to match cards together.
This week we started talking about Thanksgiving, by doing activities relating to it such as drawing Turkeys with our hands. It was fun to hear about what the kids all did for their Halloweens and what they're going to do for Thanksgiving.
I was an hour late on that day, but I emailed ahead of time and it was okay in the end because all the other volunteers cancelled. Hopefully it won't happen again, but I got out of class late. The kids were still excited that I came and continued to ask me when I would be coming back next.
Being with kids on Halloween was so fun! They all enjoyed my Moana costume, and we had fun making paper bags to put candy in. After the volunteer time was up, one of the girls patiently waited for me to clean up a little bit before asking me to go trick or treating with her in the building.
This time volunteering we made candy bags and talked about Halloween costumes. The kids were excited to see that I had come back, and one even asked me when I would be back next after realizing it wasn't just a one-time thing for me. I don't think the kids at the Triumph are used to consistent volunteers like they are at Kids Club, so it was nice to see them interested in me.
My second time here was a lot easier because I knew where things were located and more of the structure of the activities. I got to know the kids a little better, and we played more games and painted pumpkins in preparation for Halloween. I love playing with them and making them laugh, and I am glad to have this opportunity.
My first experience at Kids Club was a lot of fun! I enjoyed drawing with the kids and playing dolls with some of them. I also attempted to play Twister without crushing any of them. It was a birthday, so there were a bit more kids than usual according to some of the other volunteers. Overall I enjoyed working with both the kids and the other volunteers.
