PT 8481 Interprofessional Community Practicum

Was able to work with the same little girl from last week and we were able to stretch out her legs and get her to kick them sooner in the lesson than last time which was exciting. We were also able to stretch out her arms a little more this time compared to last week, but she still didn't get alot of voluntary movement out of them such as slapping the water to start making arm circles. Unfortunately this was the last week so I won't be able to work with her again but I did enjoy working with her the past two weeks. We also gave the report cards to Robyn and the kids which was really fun and Robyn was very appreciative of the hard work we did on the report cards and said that she will use them often.

I worked with a little girl who is usually wheelchair bound so she has limited ROM of her legs and arms. I worked with her in the pool to try and stretch out her legs and get her to kick them in the water and she did really well with that, but when I tried to get her to stretch out her arms she was a little more resistant to that so I only was able to get a little ROM of her arms. But it was still exciting to see her do that!

The first class I worked with a little girl who was really sweet and didn't really know how to swim but was really enthusiastic about it. She had her babysitter with her and the babysitter is actually in the OT program at Howard which I thought was cool. The second class I worked with the same little boy and his mom. We had a little more trouble getting him to swim compered to last week, but he's still really cute and, while a handful, fun to work with.

The first class I worked with a little girl who was very enthusiastic about swimming and was pretty good, but had a little trouble following directions. She was a handful but fun to work with. The second group I worked with a little boy who was a handful to work with but once I figured out what got him to start swimming, than it was fun to work with him.

The first group was the group with the older kids and I worked with a boy who seemed excited to get in the water, but then once he was in the water seemed reluctant to go very deep or float on his back. He was good at kicking and following directions though and did try everything a little. The second group was the little kids and the little girl I worked with was really cute but wasn't a huge fan of the water and didn't want to get her hair wet so she was extremely reluctant to float on her back. I had to hold her the entire time and constantly reassure her that I was not going to let go of her. She was good to work with though. Overall, really fun experience and I'm excited to go back next week.
