I really enjoyed being a mentor with LAYC's Latino Youth Leadership Council (LYLC) . On Wednesday afternoons, I attended leadership building activities/discussions with youth from D.C. high schools and was also able to practice and develop my own Spanish-speaking skills. As mentors, we were always invited to other events to interact with the youth and signed up to engage in workshops (i signed up for one focused on Community Service).
I really enjoyed working with a group of girls at School Without Walls in Washington, D.C. I tutored students in Spanish, with an emphasis on conversational skills. We reviewed grammar, talked about common themes, and talked about current events in Spanish. The students are dedicated to learning Spanish and are ready to learn even though it's early in the morning.
