It was such an enriching experience to work with young girl scouts and teach them dance choreography. I loved seeing them become more confident in presenting to the crowd and feel supported by their peers.
I loved being a role model and help teaching middle school girl scouts about sexual health. This topic isn't spoken about a lot and I think it is very important to be comfortable speaking about how to keep female bodies healthy.
I loved setting up the Peace Room and seeing the visitors enjoy the timeline, slideshow presentation, and various art activities. I especially liked teaching visitors to make the origami cranes while maintaining the challenge of no-english speaking! I was also very inspired by Paul Lachelier, who spoke about the mission of Learning Life, the organization he founded to help struggling families in Ward 8. Lastly, the CHI closing ceremony was very touching and the discussion with the panelists was eye-opening. Can't wait for next year!
I had a wonderful experience at DC Bilingual. The faculty and students are very welcoming and I learned a lot form immersing myself in a bilingual environment. Many times I felt like I was making a difference in the students' education. I highly recommend volunteering at DCB!
