This week, I volunteered at SOME (So Others Might Eat) located at 710 O Steet, NW, Washington DC. I signed up for 2 different sessions; Donation Services and Lunch Services. During the Donation Sevices period, I provided my service by charging people's phones and making sure that my guests are enjoying their time by playing board games such as Monopoly and Scribbles. This event was very unique as SOME were donating clothing items to many people based on a raffle draw system. Moving on, my second shift consisted of giving food and drinks to the incoming guests. In summary, my shift was from 8 am to 1 pm with a total of 5 hours. This shift was completed under the supervision of Ms. Rebecca Flakerty. My colleague, Anshul Muger, was also there to volunteer with me.
On October 4, 2019, I volunteered at a community-based organization called "So Others Might Eat" which is located at 71 O St. NW, DC. It was an eye-opening experience as I learned more about the underserved populations in DC and the effectiveness of building a strong service network to help alleviate poverty. My primary role was to give food and drinks to the incoming guests. This task was performed for overall of three rounds. I worked with my assigned mentor (Ms. Lennette), the kitchen staff, and my colleague Anshul Muger who is a student at GW. My shit was from 10:15-1:15 pm(total of 3 hours).
