Question #1 Which showcase presentation was most impactful to you and why?
The showcase presentation that impacted me the most was the one about food insecurity in Ward 8. It was shocking to learn that there is only one grocery store for 68,000 people in Ward 8. One of the presenters mentioned that with this quantity of people, there should be at least 7 grocery stores available for them. GW students have trouble getting money to pay all of the meals in their day. Various initiatives that have been created are: mobile market, lyft ride discounts, new good food market coming soon...
#2: Which of the six sessions did you attend from 2:30-3:30? In your session, what was something new your ltearned about community engaged scholarship?
I attended the session about sustainability. It was very interesting to learn how 40% of the food produced in the United States goes to waste. It was shocking to learn how many students in GWU suffer with food insecurity everyday. The girl presenting shared with us the story about her roommate who was an athlete with a full scholarship in GW and couldn’t afford to eat every single meal of the day. Now, there is access to food with 5 dollars or less which has been helpful to students.

I loved it! I was happy we could help them with the technology side of the volunteering. We helped by creating excel sheets listing non-profit organizations and sharing each of the names, their addresses, and information like this for it to be available in a much efficient way for them
