At the Historic Anacostia spot, as merchandisers, we organized the clothes and items for distribution to buyers was smoother. We helped with passing out diapers to mothers and helped with helping people pick clothes that were business professional.
As frequent volunteers, we read letters from prisoners that are requesting specific genres of books that they would like to read while they are incarcerated. We write them inspirational letters and choose the books that we feel they would best enjoy to read.
In February, we hosted a Love Yourself Month, and one of our key events was Valentines For Survivors. These cards were sent to Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV), a non-profit dedicated to supporting women affected by domestic violence, in order to uplift the women in our communities.
From January 22 to January 26 in 2018, we held a Book Drive in the MSSC for people to drop books off throughout the week. After we collected the books, we donated them to DC Books to Prisoners, as we have volunteered with them many times.
We participated in GW’s MLK’s Day of Service where we went to Malcolm X Middle School to clean bathrooms and paint murals.
