On the day of thanksgiving, a local Italian restaurant located on Cape Cod prepares food to be donated to local food shelters in province town for families and communities who are less fortunate and cannot afford to have a thanksgiving meal. This experience was extremely rewarding as I could see the direct positive impact that my work had on the nearby communities. It also increased my awareness to the amount of excess food that gets spoiled in the food industry.
I helped to cook and prepare a meal for 15+ people and families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House because they have a child who is sick and receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. I absolutely loved volunteering with RMH - you can really see how appreciated your work is by the families and specifically the parents staying in the house. It goes to show how comforting and important a home-cooked meal can be.
I really enjoyed my time volunteering here. Brianna was extremely nice and helpful and I loved seeing how successful the compost program is.
