I volunteered to serve breakfast to DC residents seeking SOME's services. We prepared the dining room, marked table settings, and dished plates of breakfast that were either delivered to or picked up by guests. We cleaned the dining room after breakfast to prepare for lunch.
I assisted in the breakfast preparation. Myself and approximately ten other volunteers in this station bagged cereal pouches, assembled French toast sticks, laid out sausage links, and divided graham cracker treats into different bags for delivery.
I helped with evening meal prep at DC Central Kitchen. I cut apples and prepared chicken for the dinner, and assisted in clean up at the end of the shift.
During my volunteering hour, I assisted Clea and five other students with the Saturday cleaning of the Store. We reorganized shelves, sanitized surfaces, swept and mopped the floors, cleaned out the refrigerators, and removed the trash. Overall, we thoroughly organized and cleaned the entire food pantry and I was very impressed with how nice the facilities were.
I volunteered with SOME at their location at 71 O St NW, Washington, DC 20001 by setting up the dining room in preparation for their Sunday breakfast. I organized and cleaned the tables, swept the dining room, and placed essential items at each seat such as salt and pepper, utensils, hand wipes, napkins, and cups. I also placed pitchers of water on the table and ensured everything else was prepared in order for the other volunteers to begin serving breakfast beginning at 7:15 am.
