I worked at a Martha's table Market in southeast DC. I assisted residents of the community in getting healthy groceries at no cost. This was an incredible experience as I was able to see individuals getting really good foods like whole grain products and green vegetables. Most of these individuals would most likely not have access to these kinds of foods on a regular basis, so it was great to see an organization working to combat this issue.
I made eco bricks and watered plants at the GW greenhouse. This was another positive experience, and I would love to see some of the projects carried out next semester in the spring.
This was another very positive experience with the Anacostia Watershed Society. The task was the same as the previous time I volunteered (planting native species and removing invasive species), however this time was in a different location, and there were more plants! Again I enjoyed volunteering here, and would most definitely come back next season.
This was an hour spent at the GW greenhouse. I spent the hour sifting through soil so that it could be reused. This was again a positive experience.
We planted a native plants into the Anacostia watershed area, and removed invasive species. Our group leader explained to us why the native plants would be beneficial to the ecosystem, and why the invasive plants were harmful. Overall, I had a very positive experience, and left excited to come back in a couple of weeks.
I enjoyed making eco bricks at GW greenhouse. Since this was towards the beginning of the greenhouse hours there was some confusion as to what we were supposed to do, however, once that was figure out it was a good experience!
