This year, MLK Day of service brought on new meaning to me. As a leader, I participated in a training the day before. We discussed Martin Luther King Jr.'s missions and how his legacy can live in by serving others. I'm grateful to have participated in this event and learn how my actions are affecting my community. Interacting with the kids and seeing how happy they were brought a smile to my face!
The hours my alternative breaks group spent cleaning up trash along the river made a dent, but there was still so much trash left to clean up. It’s unbelievable a crew of people come every weekend to clean up, and there’s still so much to do.
I've worked with A Wider Circle before serving with Alternative Breaks, and I think their mission of providing families with basic necessities and getting out of the cycle of poverty is incredible.
A group of alternative break participants spent the day volunteering with the organization A Wider Circle. Their mission is to provide household necessities to those who aren't able to afford it and the tools people need to break out of the cycle of poverty. We had the chance to organize and help out the staff, so they were able to serve more individuals.
