Some of the activities I did included signing up Village members to get a COVID-19 vaccine, socializing with members, and planning and executing events. I've attached a detailed record of my 30 hours.
Learning By Giving enabled our class to get a much greater understanding of philanthropy by creating and running our own foundation: The GW Arc Foundation. Most of my classmates are going into the nonprofit world but not intending to work at foundations, making this experience absolutely priceless. This gives us a peek into the world of philanthropy. More importantly, perhaps, it gave us a greater understanding of the other side of the equation once we go to work for nonprofits and are on the applying side of philanthropy. My role on the communications team allowed me to combine my passions for communication and social justice.
It has been such an honor to write a white paper on mentorship and DEI for 826DC. I have learned so much and am confident that 826DC will also benefit. My partner and I wrote multiple literature reviews on (1) mentorship (2) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) (3) mentor recruitment (4) mentor training (5) mentor retention; we developed suggestions for implementation of this research at 826DC; and suggested a methodology and tool for use in evaluating 826DC's potential future program. I've attached a detailed record of my time spent on this project.
