I had a great time helping out Malcolm X Elementary school. It was great to be in the school and see that what we were doing was going to positively impact the kids and take pressure away from administrators.
My team helped the food bank create packages of apples to be distributed to individuals as they came into the organization
I was able to work with Special Olympics DC and SODC athletes from a variety of different schools. Students travelled from one station to the next playing games and learning facts about nutrition, exercise, and overall wellness. My station was used to test SODC athletes about their wellness knowledge while incorporating fun movement and competition.
The CUA Polar Plunge was great. I was able to interact with several special olympics athletes and talk with other collegiate athletes about their experience with special olympics.
With the help of a coordinator from a Special Olympics I was able to plan this event. GW Women's Soccer hosted the first annual Unified Kickball Event with various special olympics athletes from DC and Northern VA. I got to the event early to help the coordinator set up the event and to make sure that all participants had the necessary paperwork. I helped with take down as well. As a team we wanted to host a Special Olympics Event so that we could help kick start the Inclusive Revolution and show that all athletes deserve to know the feeling that sports can bring them.
I was able to help the new students of GW more into their dorms. As an athletic department we wanted to welcome the new students and make them feel at home as soon as possible.
