I found the showcase presentation in room 302 to be most powerful to me because I learned about the experience of Spanish speakers living in a country where English is the primary language. I am from Texas which is near Mexico, and I, therefore, interact with a lot of Spanish speakers, and I have seen discrimination occur based on someone not knowing English. I am happy to see programs are in place in the DMV to educate and prevent this type of discrimination.
From 2:30-3:30 I attended the main conference room where I heard from older and former GW students about community engagement benefit businesses. I learned that actively engaging with the community not only benefits others but also ourselves, through teaching us skills and ideas and preparing us for future jobs.
