Event Description | We invite you to strengthen your civic leadership and interpersonal skills and join the Nashman Center at our Civic Leadership Dialogues! Civic Leadership Dialogues consist of workshops, informational sessions, and casual dialogues on various topics including active citizenship, advocacy, leadership, diversity, equity, and other related topics. We focus on the overarching theme of inclusive excellence. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE Monday, January 16, 2023 - 11:00am (EST) at Lisner Auditorium Register to serve in the community on King Day. Dr. King recognized the power of service. He famously said, "Everyone can be great because everybody can serve." GW’s MLK Day of Service and Leadership is a day to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a day of service, workshops, and reflection. This day of service is a unique opportunity for hundreds of GW students, faculty, staff, alumni, and DC community members to strengthen their service values, create positive and impactful contributions to our communities, and commit to continuing acts of service as exemplified by Dr. King.
Tuesday, January 24, 2023 - 5:00pm (EST) at Virtual (Zoom) Dr. Rachel Talbert, Doctoral Fellow ECOSYSTEM STRATEGY: CHANGING COMMUNITIES COLLECTIVELY Thursday, January 26, 2023 - 7:00pm (EST) at Nashman Center Conference Room 409 Dylan Rexroth, EngageDC Leader & Macy Gimbel, Graduate Assistant "Ecosystem: the complex of a community of organisms and its environment functioning as an ecological unit." Interested in social change work in your community? You're not alone! Come to the Nashamn Center Conference room 7:00PM-8:30PM on January 26th to learn about Ecosystem Strategy: how to work across sectors, nonprofits, and communities to make effective change. The night will start with a short summary of Chapter Five from scholar Alnoor Ebrahim’s Measuring Social Change: Performance and Accountability in a Complex World (students interested in reading the chapter before the meeting can find it through Gelman Library). Then, through activities and discussion, you will have a chance to develop an Ecosystem Strategy for a cause you care about! Snacks will be provided!

What does it look like to create a culture of accountability and community within your service organization? This workshop will explore those questions and provide tips and strategies for leaders looking to explore how to balance accountability with care in their lives and organizations.
