In collaboration between the Honey W. Nashman Center, the School of Media & Public Affairs and the GW Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, this Fireside Chat will be an intimate event surrounding the social issues of voting, the upcoming elections, and how innovation and social entrepreneurship come into play.

Guests will get to hear important insights from guest speakers from DemocracyWorks and GW Votes! This session will be moderated by Frank Sesno, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the GW School of Media and Public Affairs.

This event is open to the GW community. Please note that this is an online event. A Zoom link for the event will be sent to all registrants a few days prior to the session.

About the Guest Speaker:

Jill Brownfield is a civic engagement nerd who is passionate about the intersection of technology and social good. In her current role at Democracy Works, she helps get critical voter participation tech to millions of US voters through cross-sector partnerships. She has a BA in Political Science from Stetson University, and a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact Strategy from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also an AmeriCorps alumna, which remains one of her proudest professional achievements. Jill is a Florida native and currently works remotely from sunny Los Angeles, CA.

About the Moderator:

Frank Sesno serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the George Washington University's School of Media and Public Affairs. Prior to this position, he led the school for 11 years as SMPA Director. He is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and creator of Planet Forward, a multi-media storytelling platform that teaches and rewards compelling narratives in sustainability and science. Mr. Sesno hosts the Planet Forward podcast and the annual Planet Forward Summit, where experts, innovators, students, scientists and decision-makers celebrate breakthrough innovations and communication.

Mr. Sesno's diverse career spans more than three decades in journalism, including 21 years at CNN, where he served as White House correspondent, anchor, Sunday talk show host, and Washington Bureau Chief. Before joining CNN, Mr. Sesno worked as a radio correspondent for the Associated Press at the White House and in London. He has won several prestigious journalistic awards, including an Emmy, several cable ACE awards, and an Overseas Press Club Award.
