About

Welcome to this community engaged scholarship course. The Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service is here to support your experience. Resources for students in community engaged scholarship courses are available on our website. This includes a general guide to community engaged scholarship courses, which has instructions/video tutorials on how to report service on this GWserves platform, advice for serving safely, and step-by-step instructions for the DC Public School background check process.

Report your Service: Guide Here

Report your service activities on this platform, so that your course instructor can confirm that your service has been completed with verification from your community partner organization.

If your service project is listed under "Projects" below, click that link and the Add Impact button on that page.

If your service project is not listed here:

  • Go to the community organization’s GWServes page and click the “join” button. This will add them to your list of groups you are affiliated with, making it easier to find them whenever you add an impact.
  • From this course page, click Add Impact and complete the form.
  • The first item on the Add Impact form should be the community organization you worked with. Click on “my groups” and the orgs you have joined will appear on the drop-down list.
  • If you worked with an organization that does not have a page on the GWServes platform, click the "Can't Find It" button in this section and follow the instructions.
  • There are two “open question” items on the form, asking about the impact for the community and the impact for you. Your responses can be quite brief, but should be clear about what you did, for example, “provided tutoring” or “wrote a grant.”
  • Items with a red asterisk are required. You may leave any of the other items blank.

This report will be shared with the community organization, your instructor, and the Nashman Center. If you would like to share it with others (a student organization or similar) you can add them at the bottom of the form.
