1. I went to the National Wildlife Federation presentation which was really interesting. I learned what that the organization is working on appealing to younger age group from 13 to 18. In order to do this, they are implementing filters and geotags on social media platforms such as, snapchat and instagram.
2. The sustainability session that I attended taught me that although there are students on scholarship here at GW food insecurity can still be a major problem for those students. Additionally, GW not having a dining hall on the foggy bottom campus increases food insecurity among students because of the high prices that these restaurants charge.
1. In walking through the rooms of student projects, I was surprised to hear about the impact students received from Martha's Outfitters. The students who volunteered there this semester really felt there was a gap between the customer and the volunteer. One presenter felt that it was blatant ignorance that caused the gap in the beginning. I really enjoyed hearing multiple perspectives on the topic and their specific ways of fixing the problem. The impact the presentations had made me evaluate how I see people in my own retail and sales job.
2. I attended the session about Social Change as Good Business. I learned aside from the panel to always brand yourself especially now that I'm trying to figure out my brand and what I would like people to see. From the panel, I learned that it truly does pay to be engaged with your community and to care about it.
Question #1:
The showcase presentation that impacted me the most, was the group that volunteered with the National Wildlife Federation. These students helped the organization develop ways to draw interest and support from a younger crowd between ages 18-30. They helped fix the organization’s website page and social media to draw the attention of a younger age range.

Question #2:
I attended the sustainability/social impact through business session. I learned about one of the panelists that worked alongside restaurants like Founding Farmers and Beefsteak to create a business that takes leftover food and resells it for lower prices to help combat food insecurity among college students.
Question #1 Which showcase presentation was most impactful to you and why? (Be sure to upload a picture)
Food Insecurity and Seniors in Ward 8. It was really impactful to learn how those people have been left abandoned with no grocery store and place to buy their food. They don’t have access to healthcare or place to receive help. The seniors only have one center to go and that is really sad.

Question #2 Which of the six sessions did you attend from 2:30-3:30? In your session, what was something new your learned about community engaged scholarship?
I attended the symposium session that talked about sustainability. I learned that 40% of all food produced in the U.S. is wasted and I find this something very sad that needs to be fixed. Instead of this food being wasted if we work as a big community we could save millions of live and help homeless people that live in our community.
Question #1: I actually presented in the showcase presentation rooms, so I did not have a chance to see many of the other presentations. My project was exploring how we should discuss employment and criminal record issue in the US. We need to focus on the systemic problems that bar people from reentering society and the way that race impacts a potential solution. This approach is something that we can all take to increase awareness about issues like this.
Question #2: I attended the session about social impact through business. The two presenters talk about their innovative ideas that have helped so many people. There was a student who made a platform to combat food insecurity on campus, and the other student explained his project about Community Engaged Consulting for non-profits in the area. I learned that no idea is too small and that one idea could impact so many people.
Question #1 Which showcase presentation was most impactful to you and why? (Be sure to upload a picture)
The showcase presentation that was most impactful to me was a group that volunteered for Martha's table. I talked to them for a little bit and could tell just how enthusiastic they were about helping the community. What I learned from this group is no matter the organization, you can only help as much as you want to. If you show up unwilling to try, you won't get much out of the experience, but if you show up ready to put in your best efforts, you will more than likely come out of it feeling good and maybe even learned something.

Question #2 Which of the six sessions did you attend from 2:30-3:30? In your session, what was something new your learned about community engaged scholarship?
I attended the sustainability session. I learned just how widespread hunger is–40% of college students have food instability. This surprised me because I just assumed that if you are able to to go college, you will also be able to afford food, even if you are on scholarship. However, I realized just how false that belief is. It's even more heartbreaking because of all of the food that goes to waste, even though there are so many people in need of food.
For the first question, I choose the session which is talking about dc127. People who presented this program wants to help the poor to improve their living conditions not only in economic, but also helping their kids in education. I suppose this presentation is the most impactful for me.

For the second question, I attended the session which is talking about was a symposium on Sustainability. In their talks over forty percent of food is wasted in U.S.this actually engage me that to a community should pay more attention to saving resources to provide this for the people who need them.
Question #1 Which showcase presentation was most impactful to you and why? (Be sure to upload a picture)
I found one student’s presentation to be especially impactful to me. The student worked with and organization the helps racial minority families make their way out of poverty. Because I am passionate about issues of diversity and exposing the corrupt systems that place ethnic minorities into poverty, I found the work of the student to be very impressive and important.

Question #2 Which of the six sessions did you attend from 2:30-3:30? In your session, what was something new your learned about community engaged scholarship?

I attended the “Beyond Service - Social Change as Good Business” session. I learned that community engagement is not only important for the growth of a community, but it is also important to the growth of the self. It seemed like every one of the speakers felt like they had been personally impacted and changed for the better by their work within the community.
Question #1 Which showcase presentation was most impactful to you and why? (Be sure to upload a picture)

The showcase presentation that was most impactful to me, was the one featuring Martha's Table. This had the most meaning to me, because the presentation discussed the important of food and how necessary it is to devote time to a food pantry for those who are not able to to have as much access to food. Listening to the exposure this presenter had and trying to put myself in the shoes of those that have no other option than to eat at the food pantry provided me with an additional outlook on the significance of being able to readily have food. (The picture I took was emailed in to mentor, because I could not upload it here.)

Question #2 Which of the six sessions did you attend from 2:30-3:30? In your session, what was something new your learned about community engaged scholarship?

Of the six presentations from 2:30-3:30, I attended the one discussing Sustainability and the speakers spoke about their start-up called "Last Call for Food". In my session, something that was new that I learned about community engaged scholarship, was that helping others regardless of your background or profession, skills are contained that can help improve the lives of others. Also, a point talked about was the fact that nearly half of the students across the country have experienced some sort of food insecurity in the past 30 days. Hearing this made me realize how fortunate I am and to be more thankful for what I have.
1. The showcase presentation that was most impactful to me was the one about Documentaries. Three different students explained how and why they made these specific films and how it has to do with the community. They are directly helping people in the community by sharing their story to the world. The films they showed us were about certain people and controversial topics happening in the whole world today. The fact that we were introduced to these topics today through their films, ultimately helps the people in their films.

2. The session I attended was about food waste. I learned how much food is really wasted in this world, and how people take it for granted. They also touched upon how food is not disposed of properly either. Something new I learned about community engaged scholarship is that there are awards, grants, and fellowships for those faculty and staff that take part and improve practices in our environment. I also learned in the session, specifically with the topic of food waste, that no small act is too small, and anything can help if we all come together as a community. It all starts somewhere small.
