BISC 1008 Understanding Organisms

Today, I donated my blood to Korean Red Cross. It was about 400ml of my B+ blood type.
I've been donating my blood occasionally, but last time I did was a year ago. It was great to help others in need.

I attatched a selfie of myself.
In Korea, Blood donation counts as 4 hours of community service hours, but adding 3 due to the class limiting to 3 hours.

I did it in 17:00 ~ 18:00 which is 4 am~ 5 am in the U.S.

I transcribed documents for the Smithsonian, specifically the Freedmen's Bureau, North Carolina Field Offices. The documents were fairly difficult to read which made the challenge more rewarding.

Today, I constructed face masks that are to be worn to help prevent Covid-19. I used normal bandannas but filled the insides with coffee filters. I found out how to make these bandannas by watching a youtube video online. They are not for my personal use, as I have donated them.

My mom is staying on the safe side until everything clears up. As we live in Georgia, is has recently reopened back up with restaurants, gyms, etc. But my family is still in a worrisome state, as we believe this reopening may come too early and will cause the virus to spread more rapidly as we get over the hump. So to help combat, we try to go to the grocery store every 2-3 weeks, as this is the busiest place around. So before everything reopens and get back into normal hours, I went to the store this morning and loaded up on all essential supplies, food, water, and everything else we may need, in case we see a spike in the spread of the virus as Georgia begin to reopen.

Participated (to the best of my ability!) in the Fold It online game and modules to help scientists better understand certain diseases, proteins and ultimately work towards cures.

I gardened and cleaned up a neighbor's yard again. This time I mostly focused on the weeds and mulch, and didn't need to trim the hedges.

BISC 1008 - Recipes
I prepared and cooked a simple and easy steak dinner for my family of 5!
All you need is a grill.
What you need:
3 New York strips
5 corn on the cob
A grill
First, salt and pepper all three steaks and salt and butter all the corn on cobs. Next, prepare the grill. I used a charcoal grill, so I prepared a hot half, where the charcoal burns and a cold half, with nothing underneath it. Once the grill is ready, pat down the steaks to remove the moisture the salt pulled out of them. Then, throw everything on the hot half of the grill. I did 4 minutes each side for the steaks, before moving them to the cold side for them to cook a bit more within themselves. For the corn, I kept rotating them until they turned a nice golden brown color. Then, prepare the meal by cutting the steaks and serving them all together!
