Helping with the GW section of the American Cancer Association was a great experience. Seeing s many people rally together for an event that supports such a good cause is really amazing. I will definitely be participating again next year.
Being able to sit in on a grassroots meeting with parents was really cool. I was able to see the type of information that the kids learn from athletes (sexual, nutritional, mental health). It made me excited for the opportunity next fall to participate in Grassroots!
I was able to work with Special Olympics DC and SODC athletes from a variety of different schools. Students travelled from one station to the next playing games and learning facts about nutrition, exercise, and overall wellness. My station was used to test SODC athletes about their wellness knowledge while incorporating fun movement and competition.
I was able to speak to young girls about what the college recruitment process was like for me, and what transitioning from high school to college was like as well. It was really special to experience, and knowing that I could have made the process just a little bit clearer for some people really felt good!
