We helped garden and clean up the area where the greens were planted. I learned that a lot of people use the DC Green space to get food that they may not be able to purchase. This was a really valuable experience for me.

This was the last DC green event for their K street farm. With the organizers guidance we prepared the gardens for winter as well as just cleared up the territory. Great experience for everyone who loves gardening!

I really enjoyed helping to clean out the DC Greens garden. The work was very hands on; we cleared weeds, painted signs, and placed signs to label the fields. The people in charge of the organization were very kind, patient and helpful. They gave clear instructions, but trusted us to take care of whole sections of the garden. I know they are unfortunately not staying in the same location, but I would love to volunteer for them again.

The swim team volunteered at DC Greens, a community garden organization that donates their produced to underfunded schools in the DC area. We worked organizing and tending the garden, and helping them prepare for their upcoming move to a bigger site. This organization has a multifaceted impact on both the environment and the surrounding community. Locally grown products are more environmentally friendly, because they use less fuel to transport, and DC Greens's innovative urban farming format sets an example of how unused space in cities can be utilized. Their practice of donating their produce to schools in the DC area helps the physical nutrition of children who may not normally have access to it as well as building healthy habits they can take with them the rest of their lives. This really made me think about how inequality manifests itself in our society. As someone who grew up in a privileged position, I have always taken having fresh produce for granted. For many families, proper nutrition isn't an option, and so many people go without it for most of their lives putting themselves at great health risks (and the way healthcare is in America doesn't do them any favors either). The need for a organization like this one also highlights inequality in the public school system. I appreciate what DC Greens is doing not only to provide immediate assistance, but also to advocate for change in the system.

I spent time weeding the garden, painting signs to label which foods were planted in which plots, and cleared some additional pathways throughout the plots. Although the garden is eventually going to move locations, knowing that I was able to help the DC community was very rewarding.

I had the pleasure of helping DC Greens clean up their garden and maintain the produce to give out to the homeless. I learned about their impacts to the community and how they help people who can't afford produce.

This was a truly gratifying experience. It was amazing to learn about how the community garden benefits so many people, as well as how much joy it brought to us when we were volunteering there. I would strongly recommend volunteering at an amazing organization like DC Greens.
