Age-Friendly DC

About

Age-Friendly DC is a World Health Organization-inspired initiative to facilitate and coordinate government and community-wide improvements to all aspects of city life.  The 2023 Age-Friendly DC initiative is the result of a Mayoral order, supported by the Council of the District of Columbia, to remain a leader among communities recognized as Age-Friendly in the U.S. and worldwide.  In 2017, the World Health Organization and AARP provided the Mayor with recognition for the District’s community engagement and success in transforming DC into an easier city in which to grow older.  While progress is measured by examining the impact of changes affecting residents who are over the age of 50, the policies and practices implemented benefit residents of all ages.
