Kid Power-DC operates programs in a variety of artistic and academic disciplines in order to explore the local history of Washington DC. Activities include documentary filmmaking, creative writing, theater productions, sculpture and fine arts, web journals, and literacy projects. Our work is externally-directed so that our youth are further involved in the development of their community.
Mission: Kid Power-DC uses local history as the starting point for comprehensive citizenship training. We believe that by making a personal connection to the past and by acquiring advanced academic and artistic skills, at-risk youth can become powerful neighborhood advocates. Through this educational process, our students will gain the independence to direct the course of our mission and promote positive social change. In structured after-school programs, Kid Power-DC provides training in writing, research, filmmaking, and visual and performing arts.
