Our school was named after Dr. Charles Richard Drew, a brilliant physician, surgeon, and medical researcher. His research in the field of blood transfusions yielded improved techniques for blood storage, which allowed medical practitioners to save thousands of soldiers’ lives During World War II.
Did you know that Dr. Drew was born in Washington, DC in 1904? In addition, he graduated from Dunbar HS in 1922. Furthermore, he was the first African American to earn his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Columbia University. We are proud to carry on his legacy of high expectations and a thirst for knowledge!
