Operacion Impacto is an innovative service-learning program that bridges GW’s mission and students’ civic responsibility with local community needs and opportunities and includes the César Chávez and Dolores Huerta Day of celebration, commitment to social justice, and call to action.
The program is lead by the Spanish Language Department's Professor Dolores Perillan. she identified a linguistic gap in GW and DC community service priorities. There are many community partners who seek Spanish speaking students to help out and the goal of Professor Perillan is to provide what they need.
Learn and Practice while you Serve! The program is open to any student enrolled in a GW Advanced Spanish Course. Students must commit to a minimum number of service hours and reflect regularly during the semester.
Students who are interested in participating in Operación Impacto can sign up for Spanish 3040, 3150 or 4480 as Community Engaged Scholarship courses, and the entire GW community is welcome to participate in Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Day!
