BE PERFECT FOUNDATION

About

Letter from the Founder

"The Be Perfect Foundation was born from necessity but has grown because of choice—your choice. Thanks to you and others like you, what started as a simple idea to help friends in need has transformed into a foundation that has impacted the lives of thousands. We look back on the past eight years and are proud of how far we have come, but are uncontrollably excited about where we are going. On behalf of the entire Be Perfect Foundation, the paralysis friends we currently support, and those we will support, we humbly thank you for all that you have done and all that you continue to do. Without your continued generosity and support, we would not be able to help those who need it most. Thank you."

– Hal Hargrave, Team Captain
What is our mission?

To provide direct financial and emotional aid for individuals living with paralysis by providing resources, paying medical expenses, restoring hope, and encouraging personal independence through a non-traditional method of exercise-based therapy.

What is our vision for the future?

To live in a world where paralysis does not financially burden families to the point of emotional turmoil and physical distress--where a lack of both hope and resources does not exist.

What is the Be Perfect Foundation?

The Be Perfect Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a mission to provide direct financial and emotional aid to individuals living with paralysis. BP has changed the lives of hundreds of fathers, mothers, siblings and friends with paralysis by keeping them in recovery, purchasing medical necessities, and providing guidance and emotional support. You can hear some of the amazing stories of our patients here.

Hal Hargrave Jr. created the Be Perfect Foundation in 2007, just a few months after he suffered a life-altering automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. After recognizing the limitations insurance companies were putting on some of his friends dealing with paralysis, Hal resolved to do his part to help them recover. Read more of Hal's story here.

How does Be Perfect help?

Lifetime costs for spinal cord injuries can total over $2.5 million per victim. In most cases, insurance only covers 50-65% of these costs.

BP promotes a holistic, exercise-based therapy approach to recovery. BP offers scholarships for activity-based therapy at The Perfect Step to qualified recipients. We also provide supplemental funds to those who cannot afford:

  • wheelchairs
  • car adaptations
  • high medical bills
  • general daily medical necessities
What does the name “Be Perfect” mean?
What does the name “Be Perfect” mean?

Our name was inspired by a scene from the movie Friday Night Lights. In the scene, Coach Gaines imparts his vision for a life well-lived:

“Being perfect is not about that scoreboard out there. It’s not about winning. It’s about you and your relationship with yourself, your family, and your friends. Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn’t let them down because you told them the truth. And that truth is you did everything you could. There wasn’t one more thing you could’ve done. Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, and love in your heart, with joy in your heart? If you can do that gentlemen – you’re perfect!”

– Friday Night Lights (2004)

The Be Perfect Team is a community of patients and donors who believe that the value of life lies not merely in what is done, but in how it's lived. Be Perfect invites those living with paralysis to commit themselves to recovery -- to let the road to recovery be a way of loving themselves, their families, and their friends.
