Join our team and make a difference in the lives of middle school students in Washington DC.

This internship provides free housing on the GWU campus and a stipend.

You will learn how to facilitate a dynamic curriculum that fosters student civic engagement and helps them address issues in their community and school. 

You will participate in a fun and interactive training, meet students from across the country, learn more about DC, and gain valuable experience. 

Not only will you participate in this program but you will also meet students interning at National Geographic, Smithsonian Institution, Emerson Collective, and other students participating in ECYC  this summer. Educational, cultural and social events are planned and on campus housing is provided plus a stipend.  

Position: Full Time: Monday
June 13th - Friday August 5th

Hours: This is a full-time internship which should be your only commitment during the period

Civic Changemaker Interns will lead a group of middle school students through the Civic Changemaker program curriculum each day including service-learning projects and field trips, providing mentorship and inspiration to students as they work on service-learning and civic action projects. 

Civic Changemaker Interns will assist with building student reading, writing and communication skills, oral and visual presentation skills, and critical thinking skills as they work on their civic changemaker projects. 

Civic Changemaker Interns will facilitate all aspects of the program including curriculum delivery, field trips, welcoming guest speakers and presenters, setting up the classrooms/community sites each day.  

The Civic Changemaker cohort will participate in reflection and training sessions each week to support and strengthen their own civic and teaching skills. There will be activities in concert with other Emerson Collective Youth Summer Interns throughout the summer as well including speakers and cultural events.

This position is open to both GW and other undergraduate students. You must be a current first year, sophomore, or junior in college.
